Robert Bissell grew up on a farm in England, immersed in the beauty and fascination of the natural world. His paintings of wild animals—from rabbits and butterflies to bears, birds, and frogs—are playful meditations on the inner lives of those creatures and, by extension, of human creatures. Influenced by the surrealism of RenÃA© Magritte, Bissell mixes scales and uses gigantism in his animal vignettes, as evidenced by this calendar's twelve imaginative studies of wild rabbits—solitary, in groups, and interacting with other creatures. Now a resident of Northern California, Bissell regularly exhibits his paintings in museums and galleries across the United States and Europe.
